DEI Awards Biotech Discovery Labs
ASGCT focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts that benefit the future and current members of the Society and the communities they serve. Underrepresented groups and individuals within the bio-medical field are essential for scientific and technological innovations. Our goal is to increase awareness and opportunities for education. These efforts are guided by the DEI Committee.
Learn about our goals
ASGCT continued an innovative program to provide Milwaukee teachers with curriculum training and lab equipment so they can bring biotechnology experiments into their classrooms, thanks to a generous grant from Bristol Myers Squibb.
ASGCT staff worked with teachers from four Milwaukee Public Schools on gene and cell therapy-related experiments. The participants then piloted experiments in their own classrooms with Society-provided equipment.
This $100,000 award supports one ASGCT member from an underrepresented minority population as defined by the NIH in a postdoctoral or early-stage investigator with a fellowship in gene or cell therapy-related research for an oncology indication for one year.
This $100,000 award will support one ASGCT member from an underrepresented group in the scientific workforce as defined by the NIH through a postdoctoral or early-stage investigator fellowship in any gene or cell therapy-related research for one year.
This $50,000 award is to support one ASGCT member in gene or cell therapy-related research for conditions disproportionately affecting minorities for one year. ASGCT is committed to addressing disparities in current treatment pipelines, specifically in the level and breadth of research surrounding conditions that primarily affect minority populations.
We greatly appreciate these supporters of the DEI awards.
