ASGCT's standing committees determine the great majority of the Society's programs and are open to all members interested in volunteering
ASGCT members are able to self-nominate or submit recommendations of other members to serve on committees dedicated to shaping ASGCT and determining the Society's programs.

The Bio-Industry Committee is responsible for providing input on biotechnology industry trends affecting the gene therapy sector, such as manufacturing, investment, and market trends. The duties of the committee include recommending sessions relevant to the industry and the Society for the Annual Meeting, and serving as a networking resource to Society members from industry.
The Clinician Education Committee works to create a structured platform that fosters collaboration among experts, researchers, and clinicians, with the aim of enhancing the understanding, application, and safety of gene and cell therapy techniques. The Committee recommends programming for the Annual Meeting and other educational events.
The CMC Committee educates members and provides expertise on issues related to gene and cell therapy Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control (CMC). The Committee recommends programming for the Annual Meeting and other educational events, and supports the Regulatory Affairs Committee to interact with FDA on CMC-related topics.
The Communications Committee strengthens ASGCT’s stature as a vital resource for advancing CGT and its real-world applications by promoting awareness of member research, facilitating interactions among the CGT community, and advancing public understanding. The committee supports members in promoting their research and driving thought leadership in media.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee supports parity, representation, and opportunity within the Society and the gene and cell therapy field across all social identities, including gender, race/ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, and (dis)ability status. The committee recommends and enacts ways for the Society to promote greater equity within the Society as well as among individuals that may be impacted by gene and cell therapies.
The Education Committee is responsible for developing educational sessions that are presented at the beginning of the Society’s Annual Meeting. The format of these sessions is determined through the guidance of the Program Committee co-chairs.
The Ethics Committee advises ASGCT on position statements and/or other actions of the Society in relation to ethical issues in the field. In addition, the committee shall be responsible for educating internal and external stakeholders on ethical issues, including recommended educational programming.
The Global Outreach Committee supports the creation of gene therapy resources and Society programming outside of the United States. The committee develops programs for research collaborations, award opportunities, and outreach efforts with the goal of fostering equitable access to gene therapies throughout the world with an eye towards low- and middle-income countries.
The Government Relations Committee develops relationships with government entities, including the NIH, Congress, and CMS. The duties of the committee include recommending policy positions that support gene and cell therapy research, development, and access, as well as responsible use of these technologies; and recommending educational programming that addresses major policy issues in the field.
The New Investigator Committee develops programs that support and engage students, post-doctoral fellows, and new investigators. Specifically, the Committee is asked to monitor and develop a mentorship program and a series of lunch sessions at the Annual Meeting.
The Nominating and Awards Committee puts forth a slate of candidates each year for election to the office of Vice-President, any vacancies in the offices of Secretary or Treasurer, and all vacant director positions. The committee is also proposes the Society’s award recipients and other actions of a distinguishing nature.
The Patient Outreach Committee educates patients and families affected by diseases that may be treatable by gene therapies by developing patient- and public-facing materials to ensure they are both accurate and at an appropriate educational level.
The Program Committee is responsible for the overall development of the ASGCT Annual Meeting by soliciting suggestions from various standing and scientific committees. The committee will make the final determination on the specific programs and speakers (workshops, symposia, etc.) that will be scheduled during the ASGCT Annual Meeting.
The Publications Committee oversees the Society’s Molecular Therapy family of journals. The committee is responsible for leading the selection process for editors-in-chief for the journals and making recommendations to the ASGCT Board of Directors.
The Regulatory Affairs Committee educates members on the worldwide regulatory environment and interacts directly with the FDA regarding gene and cell therapy. The committee also provides Society representation to entities developing gene and cell therapy standards.
The Trainee Committee is responsible for issues specifically relevant to training and career development, as well as providing trainee perspectives to the Society. The Committee has develops trainee programming, Annual Meeting lunch sessions, and other trainee-specific networking events.
