Volunteer Spotlight: Allison M. Bradbury, PhD

July 11, 2024

The Bradbury Laboratory is dedicated to understanding disease mechanisms and the development of safe and efficient therapeutic approaches for rare, pediatric neurologic disorders.

ASGCT is a volunteer-led organization, and it could not effectively pursue its mission and strategic vision without the commitment of its volunteers. The Society does so through 33 standing, scientific, and board committees supported by more than 400 member volunteers. We recognize our committee leaders for their time, commitment, and expertise, and appreciate their willingness to help ASGCT advance the field of gene and cell therapy in a unique and meaningful way.

Allison M. Bradbury, MS, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University and a Principal Investigator in the Center for Gene Therapy at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Bradbury earned her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University and subsequently completed a NIH NRSA Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. The acmes of her training career include the completion of preclinical studies that resulted in adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated gene therapy clinical trials for GM2 gangliosidosis and Krabbe disease. She received the NIH Pathway to Independence award (K99/R00) and joined the faculty at OSU and NCH. The Bradbury Laboratory is dedicated to understanding disease mechanisms and the development of safe and efficient therapeutic approaches for rare, pediatric neurologic disorders.

Dr. Bradbury leads the Patient Outreach Committee to educate patients and families affected by diseases that may be treatable by gene therapies by developing patient- and public-facing materials to ensure they are both accurate and at an appropriate educational level. The committee determines new conditions to include based on the treatment pipeline, and focuses on comprehensive, digestible delivery of key cell and gene therapy concepts. The committee also plans programming for the Annual Meeting, Community Quick Takes, and more.

ASGCT thanks Dr. Bradbury for her service on ASGCT’s Patient Outreach Committee. Our members serve as subject matter experts for Society-led projects, including Annual Meeting programming, through both our standing committees and scientific committees and we could not do the work we do without them.
